Spoilers! Taking a Holiday Break

Spoilers! Taking a Holiday Break Every year at about this time, I take a break from this wonderful blog of mine to focus on my family and friends. Right now, I’m probably chilling with a cup of hot chocolate in front of a lit Christmas tree in a cozy robe. Now that that relaxing image is in your mind, I want to let you know that A Geeky Gal is on a holiday break until December 29th. I will be back on December 30th with a look at 2020’s blog and personal resolutions. I hope all of you have an amazing holiday season with your family and friends! See you in a week!

Spoilers! We Bought A House During the Pandemic!

Spoilers! We Bought A House During the Pandemic!

Wow. It’s been awhile since I’ve sat down to write a post like this. I promised my Patrons forever ago to write about how we bought our home during the Corona Virus pandemic, and things have finally calmed down enough for me to talk about it. This was one crazy ride y’all. I’ll do my best to break it down, because this tale is full of setbacks, small wins, and more setbacks. No worries though; we are in our new home and making things work while the pandemic continues. So grab a snack and settle in for my tale of how my partner and I bought our first house and the silly stories that come with what should have been a pretty straight forward (but exciting) time in our lives.

Finding “the One”

Every “How to Buy Your First Home” guide tells you to find your budget, figure out your must haves, find a realtor, get approved for your home loan, etc. Some guides might even warn you that you’ll have to compromise or make sacrifices to find a home that you’ll love. What it doesn’t prepare you for is shopping for a house in a pandemic.

Housing prices crept up and up, even though we had thought they would surely fall based on the job loss and state of the economy in the US. Houses were not staying on the market longer than a day or two. Bidding wars were becoming normal. In fact, the first house that we decided to put an offer on had over 25 other offers. We went $20,000 over asking price and still walked away without a house.

But I’m getting a little ahead of myself here. Let’s start with what our wish list consisted of for our first home. This list was based off our experiences in the rental home we had been in for the past three years that was three small bedrooms with one bath (and my year or so of living in an apartment complex in a two bedroom, one bath with the crappiest neighbors known to man) and where we saw/see ourselves in the next 5 to 7 years. Then, I’ll break down what our first home actually had.

Spoilers! I’m back from hiatus! Future Plans?

Spoilers! I’m back from hiatus! Future Plans?

Hello readers and fellow bloggers!

I am back from my moving hiatus… sorta. I am easing back into my blogging and YouTube schedule so posts may be sporadic for a little while. I am low on spoons thanks to the stresses of a new home and the ongoing pandemic so I don’t want to push myself. I have all of these thoughts and ideas that I am dying to get out as they’ve been building up on my break but once I sit down, I can’t seem to get the words out. Instead, I’ve made a list of post and video ideas that I will slowly work through and hope to be back to my regular schedule soon. I’m not going to give myself a deadline, because I will end up failing right now. So let’s chat a bit about what happened on the break and future plans for A Geeky Gal.

Spoilers! I’m Taking a(nother) Short Break

Spoilers! I’m Taking a(nother) Short Break

Hello readers and fellow bloggers!

So usually I only take a break once a year but this year has been a wild ride. A lot of good things have happened in the last couple of months. I got a big promotion at work. I’m now a lead artist which basically means I’m the supervisor over all of the artists at the company I work at. It’s been a big shift in responsibilities and lot of hours spent training and learning. I feel like I’m really going to do a good job in this new position, but right now it’s the ultimate time suck. I’ve been pulling extra hours to get things just right, but that should be over once I get past the few hurdles I’ve had thrown at me recently.

On top of a cool promotion, Alec and I have also been house hunting. That is a blog post all on it’s own, but please don’t worry too much; we’re closing on our first home at the end of August! We have a lot to do on top of the financial and negotiating side of the process like sorting things for a yard sale (as we have too much in our little rental house that we don’t want to take with us), packing everything that we do plan on taking to our new home, painting some of the rooms at the new house, actually moving to the new house, and getting a few key pieces of furniture for our new space (Like a couch that isn’t broken and a real bed frame hah! Does this mean we’re adults now?).

During this hectic time, we also welcomed a good friend from Alabama to stay with us while he gets on his feet in STL. My best friend’s husband got a job at the same company I work for so we’re working from home together while he searches for an apartment for his family. Our little space has gotten more lively and while I do enjoy the company, it makes it harder to film videos when I don’t have a private space to do so. I have been able to squeeze out a voice-over here and there, but regular videos with face cam will not be happening in the next couple of months.

All of that to say that basically I will be taking another break. This time it will be from the blog as well as YouTube. I love to write for the blog, and I love to play games for my channel, but those things need to take a back seat so I can focus on real life right now. I do plan on trickling in a post or video here and there as I’ve made prior commitments, but I will most definitely not be answering comments every day as I usually do. If you need to get in touch with me, my DMs on Instagram and Twitter are always open. I will get back to you ASAP. You can find both of those linked below.

If you’re a patron or would like to become a patron, I will be keeping y’all up to date on the behind the scenes of everything as I go along. The link for my Patreon is here if you’d like to support me in that way.

I’m not sure exactly when I will be back but I’m hoping for a comeback date in September. I really appreciate everyone’s understanding ahead of time. I know my platform has grown because of each and everyone of you, and I can’t thank you all enough for giving me this space to be myself. Rest assured, I will be back, and it’ll be better than ever!

Thank you all for understanding. See y’all soon.
