I easily ship any character in any TV show. Just ask my husband. I ship it. All. The. Time. That being said, I’m behind on basically every TV show (well… just StarGate SG1 on this list) so please don’t spoil anything for me in the comments. It’s a sad thing how far behind I am. Hopefully no one takes my geek card for it…
Father’s Day is this weekend in case you needed a reminder (here it is!). I thought this 5FF prompt was perfect for today! There’s so many fictional dads out there that truly are my favorites. I decided to pick five fathers that really embody the “best” dad. From anime to Disney, here are my favorite fictional dads!
This list was pretty easy to come up as usually my favorite characters are the ones I identify with. Now obviously none of these characters totally embody my personality or even who I am as a person, but they do possess several traits that I find we have in common.
Hori-san is half of Horimiya, a sweet romance manga about two classmates that discover the other’s secret and develop a unique friendship. Much like Hori-san, I too am an over achiever and a hard worker. She can also be abrasive, especially when it comes to her feelings. My husband jokingly refers to me as a Tsundere which I think fits Hori-san when she’s outside of school.
Another over achiever, Hermione is also steadfastly loyal and loves to read. Her greatest fears are probably failure and letting people down, much like my own. Hermione quickly became my favorite Harry Potter character with her quick wit (that I lack sometimes) and her will to make changes for those who couldn’t do for themselves like the house elves.
I bet you just went back in time when you read that name. Kagome is the leading female protagonist on InuYasha who has spiritual powers and kick-ass archery skills. While many viewers found her annoying and a bit of a damsel in distress in the beginning, Kagome is very determined, bold and kind. I took up archery because of her. I watched her grow into a strong and powerful priestess with a heart of gold. Like Kagome, I take pride in being myself, “unattractive” traits and all.
Ten is not just one of my favorite Doctors; he’s also the one I identify with the most. Behind a positive and joyful demeanor is someone who carries a lot of guilt and anger. During conflict, he can be fiercely protective and without mercy. While I’m working on some of my own issues with guilt and anger, I still very much try to be positive and learn from the past.
While coming across as strong and fierce later in SAO, Asuna had some mental health issues that led her to falling in love with Kirito who helped her straighten herself out. When SAO became in-real-life dangerous, she didn’t care much whether or not she died. Kirito became her lifeline and she took his words to heart, much like I do with my husband. She’s not afraid to take matters into her own hands and is very independent, like me.

With Mother’s Day this weekend, I thought this prompt would be super fitting as a shout out to all the amazing moms out there, fictional and real. I picked these five moms for several reasons but the main ones being that they were the most real and have their children’s best interests at heart. From Harry Potter to The Addams Family, these fictional moms are a step above the rest.
Molly not only cares for and protects her own children, but Harry and Hermione too. She does the very best she can even with limited means. What Molly lacks in money, she makes up for in love. She is one of the most selfless mothers I’ve encountered in literature.
Lorelai is a great example of a single mom who grew up and is doing the best she can. While being your daughter’s mom and best friend comes with down sides, there’s also so many benefits. Rory trusts her mom and knows she can talk to her about anything.
While perhaps not the most “normal” mom of the bunch, Morticia has not only a firm place as a head of the household, but she has a healthy relationship with her children and her husband. She may not agree with all the choices her kids make, she allows them the freedom to make their own decisions and mistakes.
Linda is one of the more modern moms of our time. She not only has those parental duties down pat which earns love and respect from her kids but she also helps and supports her husband Bob’s restaurant dream! Being a fun and “cool” mom can be hard work, but Linda makes it look easy.
Peg is anything but just your local Avon representative. She is probably one of the kindest movie mothers with a heart of gold. She befriends Edward, bring him into her home where her kids readily accept him (amazing parenting right there), and fosters Edward’s creativity. She never makes him feel less than special.
Today is all about conventions I’ve attended and wish to attend one day. I wish I could say I’ve been to 5 conventions, but I’ve only been to three so far. I hope I can add one more this weekend for Anime St. Louis but with all the wedding planning, we’ll just have to see.
Sorry for the poor picture quality. My little digital camera was very strange and needed you to push the button in such a way to avoid blurriness. We never really figured it out. Regardless, KamiCon 2013 in Birmingham, AL was my very convention. We had an amazing time with so much to do and see. I got to see cosplayers in person and even some awesome voice actors (Vic Mignogna)! It was a really great first convention.
Not many pictures were taken at MomoCon which took place a couple of weeks after KamiCon. Alec and I took my brother to Atlanta, GA for his birthday. This shot is of Alec in his Little Kuriboh shirt and a minecraft creeper’s head while he “reads” the events and panels for the weekend. This convention was even bigger than KamiCon and a bit overwhelming. We walked from the hotel we were in to the con to avoid paying valet fees. Still a great experience for all three of us though.
Anime Weekend Atlanta
It wasn’t until 2015 that Alec and I were able to attend another convention together. This time it was Anime Weekend Atlanta (AWA). Even bigger than MomoCon, this con was the first one we were able to cosplay at. We had an amazing time and I can’t wait to do it again.
MCM London Comic Con
Celebrities, Quidditch, international cosplayers: MCM has it all. It’s a big dream of mine to visit London (one of the Doctor’s favorite places), but also to attend MCM! Maybe one day….
Reasons I want to attend Otakon:
One of the largest cons

It’s been awhile since you’ve seen a 5FF post! Needing to get over some writer’s block had me revisiting the original 5 Fandom Friday girls: The Nerdy Girlie & Super Space Chick. See this post for a list of the prompts! If you’re already participating in 5 Fandom Friday, you may have noticed a few of us have made some DLC’s to complement the already lengthy blog prompt list. You can check out my first DLC for 5 Fandom Friday: the GG Pack (the Geeky Gal Pack)!
I had a hard time trying to narrow this down to just 5 things. From my birthday present this year being Hermione’s wand (which lights up with a flick of your wrist) (also, thanks Mom!) to planning a trip to Japan on Pinterest, there’s just too many every day geeky things that I do to have such a small list! I’ll give it my best shot; here’s my top 5 geeky things I have ever done.
I’m sure everyone has written fanfiction at some point… No? Just me? Damn. I had an account when I was about 12 or 13 that was just terrible. Not the account itself but my writing was horrendous. I ended up creating a new account on Fanfiction.net. I wrote Over Oceans which was inspired by my long distance relationship and my love for MMORPGs (imagine my frustration when I received a review that alluded I had never played a video game). My readers are still asking for new chapters 4 years later and, while I feel terrible for having an unfinished story, my heart is no longer in it, and my writing style has changed.
Maybe one day I’ll return to Over Oceans and give it the ending it deserves.
Attend a Convention
I’ve been to three anime conventions so far. My very first one was KamiCon 2013 in Birmingham. I went with one of my best friends and Alec, and we had a blast! We swore we’d cosplay the next go around. An opportunity fell in my lap to go again: MomoCon 2013 in Atlanta with Alec and my brother. Two cons in one year was more than my otaku heart could take. It was 2015 before I would go again. This time, my cosplay dreams came true.
It was my dream to cosplay Asuna from SAO and I finally got the chance! I did tons of research and even made a few blog posts on cosplay and conventions: attending your first convention, your first cosplay, and how to buy your cosplay online. It was a magical moment to have people ask for my picture and to be on Crunchy Roll for a few minutes (and to see the users light up the screen screaming my character’s name and telling me that I was cute was a confidence booster). I can’t wait to do it again!
Participating in a Kingdom Hearts Panel
So not only did Alec and I have to wait to see if we’d even be let into this panel for over 30 minutes (even foregoing another event), but once we got in, the panel was a bit of a let down. Don’t get me wrong. I’ve attended several panels, and they’ve always been interesting. We just thought this KH panel would be… more. We barely got to talk, and most of the discussion was centered around “what if’s” for 2.8 and III. Regardless though, we still had fun chatting with other fans, and it was a one of the geekiest things I had ever done.
Buy Anime Figurines
Alec inadvertently started this. For my birthday about 4 years ago, he bought me a wonderful chibi Asuna from SAO. She was adorable and came with a million parts. I loved it! And I just wanted more. I’ve only bought one other figurine since then but Alec has collected a few as well. I can’t to have the space to properly display them and expand our collections.
Bonus: This blog
Yes, this blog counts too! My very first blog was personal and very introspective. A Geeky Gal has become my special place on the internet since then and has become my favorite place to talk about all the things I love. My niche. My favorites. Everything.
What are the geekiest things you’ve ever done? Tell me in the comments!
With today being the first day of December, I thought I’d do a round 2 of Presents I Want Santa to Bring Me. I’m not a hard person to shop for. In fact, I cherish just about anything. I keep every card. Every mug gets a spot in the cabinet. Every necklace gets an occasion to be worn. With that said, here’s 5 things I’m hoping to see under the tree this year! *Some affiliate links have been used. Check out my about me page to learn more about these links.
I’ve been eyeing Fitbits for a year now. I can’t decide between the Fitbit Charge 2 or the Fitbit Alta HR. Both are the same price ($149.95) and do almost the same things. I’ve been getting my weight on track since April 2017, and I’d love to have one of these to help my journey.
Target Gift Card
A target gift card for all the clothes I’ve been seeing that I just NEED. Like sweaters and boots and cardigans and dresses and… I’ll stop. But for real, the clothes in Target call my name every time I go in. I just need permission (and money) to get my fix!
After a conversation about women’s giant wallets and being able to fit said wallet in your pocket, I found Fossil’s Emma RFID Mini Multifunction Wallet that comes in a variety or colors but this one is my favorite. Even if this one doesn’t find it’s way under the tree, it’s going to be mine on my birthday. Because “Treat yo self!”
A cozy hooded robe… I have needed one of these ever since I experienced a real winter where it actually gets below freezing! Not to mention the hubby prefers the house a lot cooler than I do so it’d be so nice to lounge around in a fuzzy robe… This one is from VS but save half with Amazon for this one!
What are you asking for Santa to bring you this year? Tell me in the comments!
