VGC Day 14: What game made you feel like you were playing a genre for the first time?

VGC Day 14: What game made you feel like you were playing a genre for the first time?

Referencing back to Day 13 in which I talked about all of the strange games I used to play with my childhood best friend, I need to talk about this next game that we spent hours upon hours playing until 100% completion. It was one of the first survival horror games for me and I have yet to find anything that comes close to it that gives me that same feeling of playing a genre for the first time.

That game is Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly.

This game pushed me head first into survival horror. It is freaky. It is scary. It has a one of a kind story line. And my best friend and I bonded over it like no other game we had played before. Even when we got our hands on Fatal Frame III, it didn’t compare to our love for Fatal Frame II.

You play as twin sisters, Mio and Mayu, as they explore an abandoned village. They experience encounters with the paranormal including vengeful and powerful spirits. Spirits begin to possess the twins and target them as sacrifices for an ancient ritual. You must use a camera with powers of exorcism to defeat these spirits and uncover the secrets of the village to save yourselves.

It is still, to this day, one of the scariest games I’ve ever played (and I’ve played Outlast). You can find it on PSN for the PS3 right now! It’s a steal for $9.99. It is the most highly recommended game (by myself and probably the entire world) for any horror fan.

5 Fandom Friday: Fandoms That Made Me Who I Am

I’ve recently discovered the Nerdy Girlie, and she’s amazing. She has what she and Super Space Chick call 5 Fandom Friday. It’s open to bloggers to participate! As I’ve been uninspired lately and exhausted from making a long, long move across a few states and starting a new job, I decided to give this a shot!
