The Geeky Childhood Tag (+ tags)

The Geeky Childhood Tag (+ tags)

Michelle at A Geek Girl’s Guide came up with this nostalgic tag. You can check out her post here! With Thanksgiving coming up in a few weeks, I’ve been missing my family down in Alabama. This tag seemed perfect to look back on some fond memories. Thanks for coming up with this tag, Michelle!

Where did your geek come from? Parents? Siblings? Destiny? My mom has told me that I get a lot of it from her which I believe! She introduced me to video games and has always supported me being a geek! That includes going into Hot Topic to find me InuYasha shirts, hunting down anime movies, and (sometimes obscure) video games.

The First Geeky Thing You Got Into – Reading! I may have gotten my first game at six-years-old, but I really got into reading during that time, too. Harry Potter really helped my love of reading blossom. Being able to visit Harry Potter World in Orlando as an adult was an amazing treat, and I can’t wait to go back.

Favorite TV Show as a Kid – I used to watch a ton of Digimon and Pokemon as a kid. We lived out in the country and didn’t really have many channels on cable, but we did get Digimon on Saturday mornings! Gatomon quickly became my favorite. She is such a cutie!

Favorite Movie as a Kid – Hands down, it’s gotta be Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie. My cousins and I were all about some Power Rangers and I literally wore out the VHS tape for this movie. Not only did I wear out the VHS tape, but I also went as the pink ranger two Halloween’s in a row. I was mildly obsessed.

Favorite Video Game as a Kid – If I was playing solo, I preferred Spyro the Dragon. If I was playing with cousins, I really liked 007: Nightfire for the Gamecube. It was one of the more fun multiplayer games we played at sleep overs that featured female playable characters that were badass.

Favorite Book as a Kid – Any book from Shel Silverstein. I have always loved poetry and enjoyed expressing myself through it. My mom bought me several of Silverstein’s books, but most of you have probably heard of Where the Sidewalk Ends. Fantastic books for all ages in my opinion.

Favorite Memory as a Kid – Pretty much any family holiday get together is a favorite memory of mine. My mom’s family has always been close so seeing my cousins for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas felt like a big party every year. There was always good food but there was also a lot of story-telling and laughs.

A Character You Looked Up To as a Kid – Hermione Granger. We’re both nerds when it comes to school and homework, but Hermione was so smart, brave, and took no bullshit. I wanted to be just like her.

A Character That Scared You as a Kid – Pretty much every bad guy from Courage the Cowardly Dog terrified me. Some notable ones that I still think about: Freaky Fred, King Ramses, and Katz. *shivers*

30 Day Geek Out Challenge: Complete List

30 Day Geek Out Challenge: Complete List

Welcome to the 30 Day Geek Out Challenge! If you’ve participated in one of my challenges before, like the 30 Day Video Game Challenge and the 30 Day Anime Challenge, this challenge was a little different. Not only are challengers not taking on questions centered around their favorite (and not so favorite) games and anime, but I did not release the entire questionnaire blog prompt before Day 1.

This prompt is all about you and what makes you geeky. We’ll be taking a look at your favorite fandoms, characters, hobbies, the geek community, and more. You can make you answers as long or as short as you like, but I find that telling the story behind every answer makes for a cathartic blog post. I invite all of you to take on this challenge, geeky blogger or not! I think one of the best parts of this challenge is how anyone can answer these questions.

Spoilers! Mid-Year 2019 Blog + Personal Resolutions

Spoilers! Mid-Year 2019 Blog + Personal Resolutions

It’s that time of the year where I check in on all of the resolutions I made at the beginning of 2019! I really needed this refresher after taking a break in May. I won’t be necessarily changing my 2019 resolutions, but I do think I should revise some of my goals after coming back from a mental health break due to burn out. I have a new posting schedule, and my goals should reflect that.

I’ve made great strides towards a lot of these resolutions, but others have fallen to the wayside (as they do sometimes). My mental health break was a great learning experience in that I realized what is most important to me, and how I can better handle future cases of burn out. Let’s be honest though, I want to avoid burn out again as much as possible. I have a feeling the year 2020’s resolutions will be much different from this year!

Say hello to lucky post number 301! That’s right; Monday’s post was the 300th post on A Geeky Gal. I didn’t want to deviate from my blog post schedule so I hope you’ll forgive me that this is number 301 and not 300. Can you believe there’s over 300 posts on this little blog of mine now?! THREE HUNDRED!

I have some BIG posts planned for this month as well as two YouTube videos and Wednesday tend to be my biggest day as far as views go. In an effort to put out a post today without stretching myself too thin, I thought I’d give you a peek at what April has in store…

My Pirate Crew Tag

My Pirate Crew Tag

When the World Government executed notorious pirate Gol D. Roger he announced that he’d hidden all his treasure in one place and whoever finds it gets to keep it all. This saw the beginning of the Great Pirate Era and, like most others, you would probably love to make that treasure your own.

To do that, you’re going to need a crew. Admittedly, this is based on my experience watching One Piece, however, you don’t have to have seen One Piece to join in. You will need to assemble a crew from the anime you’ve seen, selecting the best character for the positions. — Lynn Sheridan

Lynn tagged me in this very neat Pirate Crew Tag he created awhile back, and I have finally gotten around to it! Thanks for the tag Lynn! If you’re new to Lynn’s blog, definitely check out his books here!
