MCFT: Spyro Reignited, The Rewired Soul and SAO

MCFT: Spyro Reignited, The Rewired Soul and SAO

Sorry it’s been so quiet around here! The wedding wore me out, work has been crazy busy, and now the holidays are right around the corner. Can time slow down please? Anyway, I thought I’d tell all of you some of my favorite things this week that have been occupying my time. MCFT posts are usually 4 or 5 things that I’m loving this week! Here’s 4 things I am loving right now!

Spyro Reignited Trilogy

If you haven’t read my post that is part of The Games That Define Us, you totally should. And of course read the others that are up so far! There’s some really amazing posts this month and I can’t wait to read the rest. Back to Spyro Reignited Trilogy… My wonderful husband knew how much I wanted the new remastered Spyro trilogy, so, of course, he bought it and installed it as soon as he could and I beat the first game in 6 hours. Be on the look out for a Saturday Suggestion featuring the remastered favorite game of my childhood.

MCFT: Killstar, Shane Dawson and Cross Stitching!

Right about now, I’m halfway to my hometown in Alabama for our wedding! I promised my readers I’d still release some content during our time away. I realize I haven’t written a My Current Favorite Things post since May! MCFT posts are usually 4 or 5 things that I’m loving this week! Since our wedding is literally 3 days away at this point, I thought I’d do a quick “favorites” post. Here’s 4 things I am loving right now!

Superheroes & Their Female Counterparts

Superheroes & Their Female Counterparts

“Is it really so difficult to come up with the idea of a superhero who is wholly unique and just happens to have boobs—God knows, illustrators aren’t shy when it comes to those, but more on that later—and you know what else? What makes it hard? The misconception that pretty much all comic book readers are male?”

– Discover Geek

In a world where 48% of women in the US play video games and 46.67% of women in the US make up comic book fans, you’d think companies would get the message by now. Women can be geeks. Women can love playing video games and reading comic books. Women are a part of their audience, and we need these companies to start paying attention.

We want unique and individual comic book characters! We want characters of all shapes and sizes to be represented! We want LGBTQ characters who are strong and can kick ass! We have some comics who have heard our cries and stepped up to the plate like Faith, Iceman, and My Brother’s Husband. We want stand-alone female super heroes!

Can Marvel and DC hear us when they put out super heroes like Spider-Woman or She-Hulk or Lady Punisher: female superheroes who carry their male counterpart’s namesake? The ones who needed to be saved by that hero, who had a romance with the hero that they took their name from? Can these superheroes not stand by themselves without these already famous male names and a similar backstory? They can and they should.

I was recently contacted by Rika at Discover Geek who has done several interviews and reviews for the site. She wrote an incredible article on female superheroes who are famously linked to their male counterparts, romantic or otherwise. She created this awesome info graphic that perfectly illustrates her point that we need female superheroes who stand alone without a famous male namesake.

So many female superheroes can hold their own against villains and can still have a unique backstory without bearing an already famous male superhero name. Let’s get off this namesake train and give these superheroes the story they deserve!

What female superheroes do you love? Do they take their name from a more famous male superhero? What comics would you recommend to your girlfriends who need a female heroine in their life right now?

Stay-cation Essentials for Introverts

Stay-cation Essentials for Introverts

I will be the first to admit that I forget to take care of my mental health. I go, go, go until I’m all out of energy and have none left to give which is a big no-no for introverts like me. Self love and self care need to become a part of my routine. It’s all about taking time to rest, relax, and recharge. Sometimes that means saying goodbye to friends and family as you shut the door to your home and become unavailable for a weekend.

Say hello to my introverted, geeky stay-cation. Once a month, I will be going on my mini vacation at home for my mental health. It’s a little something for my husband and me to spend time together, but it’s also for me to recharge. Here’s a sample of all the things we have planned and how you can do it too!

Spa Time

I’m a lucky girl thanks to my husband in so many ways. For my birthday he got me several handmade bath bombs. I’ve only been able to use one since January. I’m looking forward to trying them all out now! This is a great time to decompress and just be by yourself. Light some candles and shut the door. This is for you.

Movie Night

Whether it’s an episode of Black Mirror, several episodes of Law & Order: SVU or the latest Marvel/Disney movie, Alec and I always wind up on the couch watching something right after work. It’s one of the ways we decompress after a long work day. What better way to relax on a stay-cation than to plan a movie night complete with all the fixings and the environment of home where you can take off your shoes and pants!

Plan Meals and Cook

We don’t eat out that often, and it’s a great way for us to save a little money. Plus I usually enjoy cooking. I say usually because I’m a lazy cook. As I’m on a weight loss journey, I try to find recipe blogs that are healthy, low calorie, and easy. These all fit the bill. But when you’re on a stay-cation, you can take the time to cook with your SO and make it fun! Why not try making your own pizzas from scratch or yummy Chinese “take-out?” Grab your grill and make some kebabs or hobo dinners on the grill. Make it match your movie night or create a theme night! Whatever you’ve been craving, find a recipe and make it!

Take Photos

We take pictures on vacation so why not on a stay-cation? Your home can be just as insta worthy as the beach or a hotel. Some cool photo opportunities might be:

  • bath bomb video
  • bath tub filled with bubbles and surrounded with candles
  • flat lay of your book, bath bombs, and candles
  • screenshot your relaxing playlist
  • flat lay of your pajamas, the movie, and some treats
  • selfie in your pajamas under the blankets with a tub of popcorn between you and your SO
  • the title of the movie as it comes on the screen
  • long table shot of all the goodies you’re partaking in
  • photos of each other cooking in the kitchen
  • shots of the meal being prepared
  • flat lay of the meal
  • selfies of your silly faces before digging in
  • and whatever else you can think of!
