A Geeky Gal Monthly Recap: May & June 2022

As expected, there’s been a lull in posts here on the blog. Not to worry though! I am still chugging away on writing elsewhere! (July will see a big influx of what I have been working on when I get those posts ready and scheduled.) I am also going to include a little blurb in these recaps with what’s next and maybe a little update on how the game I’m working on is going. With July already upon us, let’s take a look at the months of May and June here on A Geeky Gal!

Meg’s Untitled Game Update

My first game update ever! Here’s a little breakdown of what I have so far:

  • I decided on a Visual Novel!
  • Looking into Renpy as the game engine as it seems to be the most user friendly.
  • I have begun fleshing out 3 Love Interests.
  • I also already have an artist in mind for character designs.
  • Failing at putting together the story I want to tell currently.
  • I have a few key pieces of game play in mind.

So to expand on the above, I have decided to do a visual novel as my first game. From my research and seeing what other indie developers have said, I think it would be in my best interest to start somewhere simple. For example, the dev for Blooming Panic entered an Otome Game Jam with their game. With a small team, they were able to pull this game together. I took a look at their tumblr and several people had asked for their advice on making their own game and the idea of sticking with something simple like a VN stuck out to me. That being said, Renpy has been highly recommended as the game engine for most visual novels so that was an easy decision. I have played around with it a little, but still have a lot of work to do to get familiar with it.

As far as the actual premise of the game goes, I am having a hard time trying to tell a story in about 5K words or less for three different love interests. I have an idea in mind that is centered around the paranormal/supernatural. The characters themselves are on their way to being fleshed out. I’m pretty pleased with what I have for them so far. I also have an artist in mind for their character designs, but I don’t want to get ahead of myself! There is also some key game play features I want to include that is taking some research on my end. I would like to include a chat/forum feature similar to Mystic Messenger and Blooming Panic. However, not only am I having a hard time figuring out how to do it, but I am also having trouble how to implement it so that it feels unique to the game and not a ripoff of someone else’s hard work.

Still lots of work to do, but I’ll get there!

A Geeky Gal Monthly Recap: April 2022

April has been really busy for me on the personal side of things. Work has been hectic, and I’ve been making an effort to write more recreationally! I’ve been enjoying flexing my creativity as it’s much needed as I work on the storyline and plot for the game I am working on. The blog may not look like much in way of posts but believe me when I say that things are still cooking away for AGG! With the first week of May upon us, let’s take a look at the month of April here on A Geeky Gal!

Highlights

Spoilers! 9 Years of Geeky Blogging

April of 2022 makes 9 years of blogging here on A Geeky Gal. I’ve said it before that that is a long time to keep writing about my love of geeky things. My writing and my blog have evolved so much, especially over the last few years. As I grow and change, my writing will continue to evolve as well. My time spent blogging would not have been the same without the amazing community that I am honored to be a member of. I may not participate as much as I’d like, but sometimes life comes first. That’s also something I love about the community as well; everyone understands that blogs are hobbies for a lot of us. I have a full time job
and a family, but writing for my blog has been an incredible outlet for me. It’s why I’ve been keeping up with it for so long!

I made the Blooming Panic Love Interests in The Sims 4!

I created the Blooming Panic LIs in The Sims 4 and also ended up creating their bedrooms too. Took me about 2 days to get everything done, but I’m pretty pleased with how it all turned out! The 4 bedrooms are a part of a fully functional apartment with kitchen, living room, game room, and laundry plus 2 shared bathrooms and one half bath. There’s also a giant cat tree in the living area for Cat. (Peep Cat in Xyx’s room hehe.) Also, I feel like NakedToaster and nightowl would be messy so I made sure their rooms reflected that.

Welcome to February 2022’s recap! I had planned to post a bit more this month, but alas, I was not able to finish all of the posts I wanted to. Not to worry though, they will still make it on the blog soon. I just need to make the time to finish them. Finding Digital Love: 5 Otome Games in My Switch Backlog

For this past Christmas, I asked Santa (my husband) for some Otome games on the Switch, and he delivered with some really amazing picks! I just finished Code: Realize ~Guardian of Rebirth~ (review coming soon!) and was taking inventory of what I wanted to play next. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to share what is currently in my backlog with you and gush about why I am so excited to play these!

I’ll Take 4 Discord Boyfriends Please [Blooming Panic: Full Bloom Review]

Y’all will have to forgive me on this one. I had every intention of adding a Gaming After Dark post for this month, but I cannot get Blooming Panic off of my mind. I got all four of the “good endings” in less than 24 hours. I am hooked and head-over-heels for the amazing love interests in the form of Discord boyfriends. I knew I needed to get this review out before my heart exploded from the wholesomeness that is this indie Otome game!

On the brink of losing her position as a maid and with no prospects to go on, the offer of a place at Rooksgrave Manor—a house of ill and unusual repute—sounds like a perfect fit for a young woman with Esther’s inclinations. Even better, the invitation comes by the hand of the handsome Dr. Underwood, a delicate gentleman with a ferocious alter ego who knows exactly what he wants from Esther.

Upon arrival, the men and the daily decadence of the manor feel too good to be true for a girl of Esther’s station. There are rules to be followed, expectations to meet, and Esther is afraid she might be too wicked even for a place like Rooksgrave.Temptations lurk around every shadowy corner and Esther has never been a girl able to resist. But the risk of disappointing her new gentlemen isn’t all that’s threatening Esther’s new position. Rooksgrave Manor’s protections for its unusual patrons are failing, the wards are crumbling, and Esther’s new and exquisitely pleasurable life may all come tumbling down.

Katsuki Bakugou is a great Pro Hero. He’s great with kids, kicks ass everyday and doesn’t take shit from anyone. But he has a bit of an embarrassing secret. He absolutely loves Romance Mangas and novels. What happens when you two meet in a bookstore and bond over your favorite books? Will you stay strangers or will you become more?
