Spoilers! Mid Year-2021 Blog, YouTube + Personal Resolutions

It’s that time of the year where I check in on all of the resolutions I made at the beginning of 2021! I like to do these mid-year refreshers to see what I need to continue working on and what is near accomplishment if it hasn’t already been completed. My recent haitus gave me a fresh perspective on my blog, YouTube channel, and my personal life. I’ve made great strides towards some of these resolutions, but others have fallen to the wayside (as they do sometimes), and that’s okay!

Blog + YouTube Resolutions for 2021

  • Rebrand the blog.
  • Update all blog posts (fix headers, SEO, update links, etc.)
  • Write at least one “think” piece for a video game. (well on its way!)
  • Reach 2,000 followers on WordPress. (1,350 followers currently)
  • Make a “sit-down” YouTube video every two months. (so far, so good – minus the haitus)
  • Upload 3 YouTube videos a month. (so far, so good – minus the haitus)
  • Invest in better equipment for YouTube to improve quality. (done!)
  • Give Twitch streaming a try.
  • Stream for charity.
  • Reach 300 subs on YouTube. (216 subs currently)

Rebranding the blog may have to wait until 2022. I am still struggling with creating a new brand and finding a new name for the website (and arguing with myself about keeping the original name — A Geeky Gal). Since I am probably holding off on the rebrand, I’ll also be holding off updating all past blog posts. I’ve crossed them both out for now. Maybe they will make a re-appearance next year. In my return post, I mentioned that I have a big “think” piece on the way. It will also be bringing a new category to the blog, but these big pieces will only come out a few times a year since I have decided to get some help with the research involved in these kind of blog posts. My follower count is slowly rising, but I don’t think I’ll be making it to 2,000 followers by the end of the year, and I’m okay with that. I have a really fantastic audience. and I would rather have people around who enjoy my content rather than have 2,000 followers.

My hiatus has definitely affected my goals; however, I am choosing not to count my hiatus against myself. We all need breaks! So my YouTube goals are left intact as far as I am concerned. In fact, I have a special sit down video coming next month that I worked on over my break and I even recorded a couple of videos during my break that are already making their way to YouTube this month. On to Twitch… I have gathered some graphics and set up OBS Streamlabs for a stream but have yet to set a date for my first stream. I am unsure of when to stream and what to stream. I’d like to do it on a day when I know at least one person will be in chat so it’s not as anxiety-inducing for me. One I get that sorted, I plan on streaming for charity. I have done a little bit of research on which charity I would like to donate to, but I think I need to have at least some kind of audience before attempting a charity stream. As for YouTube subs, I was pleasantly surprised that over my break I continued to get subscribers! At the current rate, I think I will reach my goal of 300 subs by the end of the year.

Personal Resolutions for 2021

  • Create a vision board. (see it here!)
  • Read for half an hour a week.
  • Journal twice a month.
  • Work on self confidence and self love.
  • Take a 24-hour break from social media once a month.
  • Complete at least 2 games from my backlog.
  • Plan a trip (pandemic permitting).
  • Phone-less and TV-less date night once a month.
  • Update budget and financial goals.
  • Get my documents in order.

My personal resolutions have honestly been harder to keep. I have crossed off a few things like my vision board, completing two games from my backlog (both were Kingdom Hearts related to get ready for KH3, and I am still playing KH3), planning and making a trip to Tennessee back in late April, and updating my budget and financial goals. What’s left? Reading for half an hour a week has gone well if we’re counting Webtoons and eBooks. I think next year I will plan to read a number of books/eBooks instead. I have not been taking a day off a month from social media, and I really need to make an effort to do so. In my own defense, I have been pretty good about not mindlessly scrolling on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. We won’t talk about Tik Tok though… I have spent way too many hours scrolling through Tik Tok!

Date nights have been on the back burner for most of the year unfortunately. Alec and I have had other priorities, but now that we are both fully vaccinated, we have slowly been getting out of the house (and away from the living room TV) for date nights. Recently, we were able to go to the movies, something we haven’t done in almost a year and a half. We’re still taking precautions, but it has been easier to have a date night sans technology now that it feels a bit safer to venture outside. (Update: we are back under a mask mandate so dates outside of the house will be no longer happening unless the time and place is safe for us.) Last but not least, I haven’t had a chance to get those boring “adult” documents done. They have been on my mind here lately so I will be taking the appropriate steps to finally get those taken care of soon.

How are your goals going for the year? Is there anything that I can do to help you reach them? Let me know in a comment below or shoot me a DM on Twitter!

  1. Hi! Great job keeping up with your goals for this year 👍 I think some of mine would be finding my people (building my audience), writing posts well in advance, and having more focused Instagram content. Best wishes for the rest of the year!!
