Harry Potter Challenge: Day 30

If you’re interested in participating in the Harry Potter Challenge, read this post here! Each day I will be posting a question for that day for the next 30 days. When I reach day 31, I will release all 30 questions in a single post with links to all of my answers. Follow along each day with your own post or feel free to wait until the entire challenge has been released and take it on whenever you like! Be sure to link back to the master post at the end or link back to each post for each day.

Day 30 – Epilogue: Did the original series get the ending it deserved?

I have a lot of gripes with the epilogue of Harry Potter, a lot of which I could have gone over on Day 28 but there was a more pressing issue at hand that I wanted needed to write about. First of all, I’m found it hard to jump on the Ron-Hermione ship. I felt more chemistry between Harry and Hermione throughout the books. Could they have a healthy marriage? Perhaps, but I could see there being struggles in their marriage for sure (maybe I should give the books another re-read to see if I’m missing something though). Second, Harry’s kid has the WORST name ever. Sorry, not sorry. Snape’s behavior was hardly addressed, and I found it strange that Harry felt comfortable naming his child after someone that bullied and tortured him throughout his school years.

However, I am glad that Harry got a happy ending. He does tie up his character arc neatly, though a bit abruptly as a reader. Harry has grown up in many ways over the course of the series and we can get a glimpse of him as an adult now as he talked to his son as he gets on the train to go to Hogwarts for the first time. Do I wish there had been more mental health talk there at the end? Yes, absolutely. This could have been a good time to at least hint at how the characters have dealt with the traumatic events of their childhood, but I know it’s simply an epilogue and not an entire book.

Alas, we are at the end my friends. I do hope you enjoyed this 30 Day Challenge as much as I enjoyed putting it together. It was a delight to see everyone’s answers so far. I can’t wait to put on the next challenge in 2021. Hope to see you all there!

The scar had not pained Harry for 19 years. All was well.

  1. Oh my God all the ending marriages just annoyed me… I would like, 100% switch them all up.
And Draco didn’t get the redemption arc he deserved, and just SO much that I wish I could change… LOL!
So no, I believe that the series didn’t get the best of endings…

  2. I did not mind Ron and Hermione’s relationship but as discussed in what would i change I feel like they would need to have a moment. Hermione I classify as a high flyer, I think she would want to be in a relationship with a “lesser”. She needs to shine with Harry she could never do that. She is an achiever.
She just needs a good egg type of husband. I am not sure if she would exactly be happy with Ron..but since the books end in 1998 I think, I could see her stick with that mindset for a few more years to come. I do feel there was chemistry between them but more like.. the boy pulls pigtails of the girl he likes kinda chemistry.

Ginny and Harry I do not find a great paring, they mostly bonded over trauma. I could not see that lasting. I kinda feel Harry would have difficulty finding a partner, he died, he would have a lot of quirks. If anyone I think he should have ended with Luna who I feels would be the least likely to force him into a “normal” life. In the books he kept the wand instead of breaking it.. and promises never to duel anyone until his death..so I think he would live a bit more recluse like.. again something Luna would best be equipped to deal with. The Weasleys are all very family minded and I dont think it would be wise for Harry to constantly be there.. there certainly still are enemies who now know he has the wand.

Then about George I would love to see him in a male x male relationship as his happy end. I think it would make perfect sense that he would search for an energy like his lost brother in his life. Maybe with Neville.. who became a lot braver and finally could accept parts of himself his family would not allow.. cause Neville also got sold short. They could have adopted.

My ultimate ending would have been this: We see Platform 9 3/4 and Ron and Hermoine as well as George and Neville are seeing their kids off. Hermoine loses a hat she is wearing and it gets picked up by Draco. He walks over to her and hands the head back. Telling her she looks pretty enough without it. She smiles at the flirt.. showing her marriage with Ron isn’t super strong. But as he steps in to defend her she smiles content. He is there for her when he needs to be. Draco backs off but makes a “joke” about her being with a Weasly. This would show that Draco has become more acceptant of Mudblods and recognises her talent and has changed his ways.. but he is still Draco when it comes to Ron.
Neville and George invite the two for tea at their place and to show the new baby they adopted. They mention they should also invite Hagrid. They stare at the sky and it is clear they are thinking of Harry.

The scene changes to a little house on the beach , the house looks super weird as we see a somewhat bewildered man writing strange notes, when Luna comes back with some very basic groceries. She apoligises for the delay and tells something weird …like sorry for I had to patch up an Alicorn along the way I gave it a few apples hope yo don’t mind. The man smiles at this wife, a wild beard and locks of hair covering most of his face except for some light reflecting of his glasses. Luna asks him “Darling could you please go see if the babies are fine” and the man does so. Their babies aren’t children but little owlets. One of them is a little white baby Owlett that the man named Hedwig, and thats where I’d end it off.

  3. The epilogue has always been something that’s bugged me about the Harry Potter series! I thought it seemed pretty weird and just tacked on to the end of the series as an afterthought. Also, I always thought Harry and Hermione belonged together!
