Harry Potter Challenge: Day 28

If you’re interested in participating in the Harry Potter Challenge, read this post here! Each day I will be posting a question for that day for the next 30 days. When I reach day 31, I will release all 30 questions in a single post with links to all of my answers. Follow along each day with your own post or feel free to wait until the entire challenge has been released and take it on whenever you like! Be sure to link back to the master post at the end or link back to each post for each day.

Day 28 – Rowlings’ Annual Apologies: What would you change about the series?

We all know that every year, Rowling apologizes for killing a character or tells us that she wanted to do XYZ and regrets ABC. Unfortunately, This 30 Day Challenge came at possibly the worst (or best?) time. Rowling has once again made me personally ashamed to love Harry Potter. Her comments against the trans community have truly hurt me and my loved ones. We all have felt as though Harry Potter welcomed those who felt different, who are different, and gave us a place to belong. Rowling is trying to rip that away, but I refuse to let her. This is an unfortunate instance where I am choosing to separate the art from the artist, or, in this case, the author from the series.

So what would I change about the series? I wouldn’t bring someone back from the dead, nor would I change any of the characters. No, I would change the author. As far as I am concerned, Daniel Radcliff wrote Harry Potter, and you can’t make me believe otherwise now. If you’d like to find ways to still love Harry Potter, but take Rowling out of the equation, I highly recommend checking out The Gayly Prophet Podcast on Instagram where you can find ways to stop supporting Rowling while still representing your Hogwarts House.

What would you change about the series? Let us know in the comments below OR take on the challenge yourself and link back to this post so I can see your answer!

  1. It’s hard to disagree you already picked the best answer. I would do the same thing immediately.

As for a part of the story I’d change. Probably in the last book when Ron splits up from the group when dealing with the locket. It felt just as force as Frodo leaving Sam in the LOTR movie for me.
They all had been trough so much already together, Ron and Harry also had already done the whole “Lets not be friends” in the books before, so I really felt that was a bit weak…”Again?” I wondered.
Since it also kinda happend in the fourth book as well. It felt to much like the ring corruption anyway so I’d probably would have changed to work differently entire.

Since it was Salazars Locket I’d make it more that you embody his mind set.. and not hate each other but dislike muggles and half bloods. It could be very interesting to see Ron and Harry be mean to Hermione maybe to a near aggresive point.. which is when she would start wearing it. Seemingly not affecting her in the first place.. but the Amulet whispers she is not worthy and makes her hate her parents and all… eventually driving Hermione to hurt herself.. Ron stops her.. by telling how she can hate herself so much while he loves her so much.. allowing her to break free from the spell and toss the locket. Harry tells them he will look for it and gives Hermione and Ron a moment and we then move into the Doe Patronus showing him the lake. Ron saving him (doesn’t even have to be the same scenario as long as you think they aren’t near anywya) and destroying the amulet after which he would jokingly say that Harry picked a bad time to be in mortal danger and just grin a bit sheepishly looking to the spot their camp was at.

  2. I liked your answer . I think for me the best part would be to add a bit more diversity . I always felt the series and the movies always lacked strong POC. There was Cho, Parvati, and Padma and I feel like JK tried to add a bit more in Fantastic Beasts but it was always really clunky . Idk maybe thats why there needs to be more POC in fantasy and media in general.
But on the positive theres new indie game coming out called Witchbrooke and its about being a student at a magic school . You can choose all kinds of hair colors , skin tones , and genders. So I think it might be a good inclusive game for people that like that magic school feel 💕
