It’s that time of the year where I check in on all of the resolutions I made at the beginning of 2020! I like to do these mid-year refreshers to see what I need to continue working on and what is near accomplishment if it hasn’t already been completed. Like last year, I took a break in May to focus on my mental health and self care. Like everyone else, I have been struggling with self isolation and needed some time away to care for myself.
My break gave me a fresh perspective on my blog, YouTube channel, and my personal life. I’ve made great strides towards some of these resolutions, but others have fallen to the wayside (as they do sometimes), and that’s okay!
Blog Resolutions for 2020
- Post at least two YouTube videos a month. (So far, so good!)
- Learn how to edit videos better. (Working on it!)
- Complete two look books for YouTube. (One on the way!)
- Interview 2 geeky people for Geeks Doing Geeky Things. (?)
- Have 500 YouTube Subscribers. (139 currently.)
Complete a new 30 Day Blog Challenge.(Prepped and ready!)
- Post more mental health content on the blog. (So far, so good!)
- Update photos of myself on the blog. (?)
- Host a giveaway. (?)
Set up and launch Patreon.(Done!)
I have been able to meet my goal of at least two YouTube videos a month! I’m so glad that I gave myself some room to breathe here because I’ve been able to create, edit, and upload videos without stressing about meeting a personal quota. I am currently learning how to better edit my videos. We upgraded my old PC set up, and I’m currently using Premiere Pro and Shotcut for different videos. My next goal will be to find an editing style that feels like me!
Due to COVID-19, my LookBooks did not go as planned for this year. I wasn’t able to thrift or purchase needed items; however, I was able to put together a LookBook that will be up in about a week or so created from things I already had with some things purchased from Poshmark and Depop. While the LookBook didn’t go as I had originally planned, I’m still happy with how everything turned out. In that same vein, I also wanted to interview two geeks for Geeks Doing Geeky Things that were local to STL, but due to current circumstances, that wasn’t feasible and may not be for the rest of the year. I have been in talks with a geeky YouTuber couple about doing interviews via Skype though!
For YouTube, I wanted to reach 500 subscribers this year. I’m not halfway to 500 yet, but I’m confident that I will continue to gain subscribers. I aimed to complete another 30 Day Challenge and will be successful! It is in the works to come out soon. I was hoping to write more mental health content for 2020, and I have succeeded so far! Updating my photos on the blog has also been put on the back burner due to our current circumstances. Hosting a giveaway may also have to wait until next year. I haven’t been able to get the items needed, and the postal service is already overworked with online orders.
Last, but not least, I launched a Patreon for my blog in February! I’m super proud of how everything turned out. If you’d like to check it out and become a part of the Geeky Gang while taking advantage of some cool benefits, check out this link!
Personal Resolutions for 2020
- Get an LLC for freelancing. (I picked a name!)
- Add to my 3D model portfolio. (meh…)
- Less junk food; more fruits and veggies. (So far, so good!)
- Be more eco-friendly & sustainable. (So far, so good!)
- Marie Kondo my stuff.
Travel somewhere new.(Cancelled.) Take a vacation.(Cancelled.)
- Start writing a book. (?)
- Complain less; appreciate more. (So far, so good!)
- Be kinder to myself. (So far, so good!)
I was able to settle on a name and start working on a website for my future freelancing business. My LLC is in the works, but on hold until real life gets sorted again. I’ve been actively working on my portfolio, but have yet to add anything to it as of yet. Sigh. My health is still a priority, though self isolation has really affected it. Taking a break in May helped me get back on track! I had a goal of becoming more sustainable and am still working towards finding more ways to be more eco-friendly! I still think Marie Kondo’ing my spaces and things will help with my stress and anxiety. I still plan to document the process on my YouTube channel at some point.
Traveling and taking a vacation are two resolutions that won’t be crossed off this year. No one anticipated the virus that has brought travel to a stand still. As far as my future book goes, I’ve been able to dig out my old notebooks and find my old work documents; however, I may focus my energy elsewhere. I’m undecided. My last two resolutions are a work in progress. I’ve been having a hard time appreciating anything right now, but I have been able to find small things to be thankful for. And there have been some instances where I’ve been able to be kinder to myself when in the past, I would have beaten myself up.
In January I said I was looking forward to the year no matter what came my way. While things aren’t as positive as I’d like them to be, I’m still hanging in there and making the best of things. That’s all we can do right now. I have hopes that next year will be better.
