I started dipping my toes into K-Pop last August when I heard “Waste It On Me” by Steve Aoki & BTS which led to me falling into an ocean of Blackpink songs. I completely bypassed BTS somehow despite loving “Waste It On Me.” Yeah… I don’t know either! Not to worry though, I did eventually find myself back in the arms of BTS, but until then, I did what I always do when I want to know more about something: I turned to Twitter!
I was given so many recommendations including a master YouTube playlist from Mel in Anime Land that had so much early K-Pop for me to try out. Unfortunately, a lot of these songs aren’t on Spotify so I made a much smaller YouTube watch list of songs from Mel’s wonderful and extensive list. I even had some individual songs recommended to me from some of my blogging friends! Then, like the universe had heard me, a few of my fellow bloggers shared their K-Pop playlists and favorite songs. Before I knew it, I had fallen down a rabbit hole of amazing Korean/English lyrics, sweet vocals, and beats that lifted me up.

I was a bit of obsessed with Blackpink for a few months before I finally expanded to more than just the four-member girl group. I enjoyed Red Velvet from Mel’s giant playlist so I gave them a listen and then I listened to TWICE, and then I just kept going until I rounded back to BTS, the boy group that started my spiral into K-Pop.
Thanks to some amazing bloggers like Geek Gals, Mel in Anime Land, Nerd Side of Life, and Lunah Magazine, I was able to compile a Spotify playlist from their suggestions. You can check it out below!

I’ve been around since second Gen. There are so many tracks I’ve grooved to over the years and my core playlist just keeps growing. They were the reason I started dancing again in college after abandoning it for years.
I’ve been taking a K-pop cardio class online for over a month and it’s been a lot of fun! The teacher is a sweetheart.

It is! It’s Soul1Studio in CA. The class is late for my time zone but I don’t regret it.

I’ve also been around since second gen (vaguely around Super Junior’s Sorry Sorry) and discovered BTS in Danger era. So much has changed in the last 10+ years. Kpop has reached more people and greater bounds than I ever could have imagined.

I discovered K-pop in January of 2019. I had friends who LOVED and I mean LOVED BTS. I didn’t put too much thought into that since I didn’t really care about music. One day we had a snow day and I was bored so, I searched up BTS and watched their DNA music video and FELL IN LOVE with these 7 korean men. I Also looked into their translations and found out the good meanings in their songs. I then also, started stanning more k-pop groups. I now stan more than 40 k-pop groups and I’m broke :’)

I am definitely a fan of KPOP. My first experience with it was when I was in high school, back then it was more of BoA and then BTS came into my life around the time they won their first Billboard award. What’s interesting is that I didn’t understand the hype at first. I first went to Spotify and tried listening to a playlist of their songs, but it didn’t click, similar to what you went through above. I couldn’t even get through the first song, but once I started watching their dance videos I WAS HOOKED. I also went down the rabbit hole of all their content and have been an ARMY ever since.
