A Geeky Gal Monthly Recap: April 2020

Welcome to my April 2020 recap! I hope you all are well as we continue to self isolate and get used to our new normal. It’s been rough on most people, myself included, so let’s keep hanging in there. We made it through March, and now we’ve made it through April… With the first week of May upon us, let’s take a look at the month of April here on A Geeky Gal!

The month of April marks seven incredible years of geeky blogging. Seven years is a long time to keep writing about my love of geeky things which is why my writing and my blog evolved over these past seven years. I fully expect for my writing and my blog to continue to evolve and be an extension of myself.

To celebrate such a huge personal milestone, I wanted to share my personal favorite blog posts with all of you. Some of them make me cringe a bit, but it just shows growth! There were also long period of time between blog posts in the very beginning as I didn’t have a schedule worked out that made sense for my lifestyle at the time so some years have more posts than others. I enjoyed taking this tip down memory lane and I hope you will, too. Don’t be afraid to comment on some of these old posts to let me know your thoughts.

6 Ways I’m Coping with Self Isolation

SelfIsolation

With all of what is happening in the world plus Padme’s situation on top of my mental health being absolute garbage, I’ve just been barely holding it together. I haven’t been eating well or exercising. The gym was my sanctuary, and lifting made me feel my best. Meal prep took up a lot of my time, and right now it just doesn’t feel worth doing.

The past week though, I have been eating when I’m hungry (and not just constantly), and I’m jumping on my exercise bike when I want to play a game. My trainer even reached out to offer virtual training so I’m excited to give that a try too. The few things that are starting to shine a light on this dark situation have made me think about other ways I can try to cope through this situation.

If you had told me that I would be working from home self isolating for what could be almost half the year back in January, I wouldn’t have believed you. I had so much to look forward to: Animal Crossing in March, a BTS concert in June, seeing family and friends for holidays… Even going thrift shopping has been cancelled as we all try to stay inside for everyone’s health. But that’s eaxctly what happened. Plans were cancelled. Life feels cancelled, but at least I still had Animal Crossing to look forward to in March… A light in the darkness for most gamers and “non-gamers” alike.

Earlier this month I gushed about Animal Crossing and how it had such a big impact on my life. I briefly touched how much it was helping me cope through this period of self isolation and I even did a review on the game so far, but I thought this month’s prompt would be the perfect opportunity to open up about how Animal Crossing: New Horizons was helping me keep my head above the water.
