Just like last year for the month of October, I am pulling away from my regular 5 Fandom Friday and Saturday Suggestion posts. Every Friday for the month of October I will be presenting my 5 Freaky Faves in honor of Halloween! This week’s 5 Freaky Faves are 5 horror games you should try! See this post for last year’s 5 Freaky Fave Games!
Rule of Rose
Rule of Rose became a bit of an obsession because I couldn’t find it again after playing it all those years ago. It was a game out of its time. It was weird. It was rare. If it didn’t have a cult following, it should have. — A Geeky Gal
I’ve been playing my personal hidden gem, Rule of Rose, on YouTube so I’m linking my let’s play list so far!
Catherine: Full Body
While I’ve reviewed Catherine on the blog already, I am currently playing Catherine: Full Body, which is the original game PLUS 60% more content! It’s the perfect mix of puzzles, choice, and horror. I highly recommend making Catherine one of your October games.
Dead By Daylight
Dead by Daylight is probably one of the most anxiety inducing games I have ever played. And I count how many times I’ve played it on one hand. That’s not a knock on this game though. Despite my love of horror, I enjoy watching others play this one rather than playing it myself. My husband is specifically enjoyable to watch for me. This game is best played with friends in my humble opinion.
Juliet Starling is a normal high school student. She’s a cheerleader, has a sweet boyfriend, and even rides her bike to school. But Juliet has a dark secret…. She’s a zombie hunter. On the morning of her birthday, there’s a zombie outbreak. Juliet, with help from her body-less boyfriend, two sisters, mom, and dad, must defeat the zombie apocalypse her classmate has unleashed upon the town before all hell breaks loose (literally). — A Geeky Gal
Doki Doki Literature Club
Trigger warning for suicide, self harm, and other disturbing content.
You’ve read the game tags. You’ve read the warnings. You’ve read the reviews. It’s on Steam for free. Now it’s your turn to experience the psychological horror that is Doki Doki Literature Club!
Don’t let the innocent logo, shades of pink, and the stereotypical looking visual novel ladies fool you. This game made me scream, and never have so many obscenities come out of my mouth while playing a Steam game before. Jump scares? Check! Nightmares? Check! Images burned into my eyeballs? Check! Music stuck in my head for days? Check! Check! Check! — A Geeky Gal
