Day 28 – Favorite movie soundtrack?
Sweeney Todd is one of my favorite musicals of all time. The movie stars three of my favorite actors, too: Johnny Depp, Alan Rickman, and Helena Bonham Carter. The story is dark and gritty which makes this mini (wannabe) goth’s heart sing. What really makes this movie my favorite, though, is the soundtrack. It is just as dark and gritty as the setting, costumes, and characters. And while our two main characters may not be known for singing, they do a damn good job bringing this Broadway musical to life on the big screen.
Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street is a Victorian period bloody musical slasher. The film spins the tale of Sweeney Todd (Depp), a barber and serial killer who murders his customers with a straight razor. With the help Mrs. Lovett (Carter), they process their murdered customers’ corpses into meat pies. It’s as bloody as it sounds.
Todd returns to his hometown after being falsely imprisoned and exiled for fifteen years by Judge Turpin (Rickman) who lusted after his wife. Mrs. Lovett tells Todd upon his return that his wife is dead and that his daughter Johanna has become the judge’s ward. After a run in with the judge, Todd swears revenge and kills as many people as he can while he waits for the perfect chance to kill Judge Turpin all while Mrs. Lovett falls in love with Todd.
As much as I wish I could say I know every word to every song, that’s sadly not the case. It’s still my favorite movie soundtrack even if I can’t sing every song by heart. I still enjoy the dark tunes and story-telling that they embody. My favorite songs from the soundtrack are “By The Sea” and “Not While I’m Around.” Carter had quite the time singing “By The Sea” because it required almost no breathing between the words. You can give the entire soundtrack a listen below.
What is your favorite movie soundtrack? Let me know in the comments below OR take on the challenge yourself and link back to this post so I can see your answer!

I’d have to say as far as music itself goes I am a big Star Wars fan girl.
If I look at how music is used in a film and how the soundtrack is applied Baby Driver made me a happy girl, where the movie was choreographed based on the soundtrack which was quite amazing and something that distrinctly stood out to me.

I love Sweeny Todd! My partner and I were looking for this DVD yesterday because neither of us has seen it in ages. I’ll have to get it up tonight and watch it again!
I personally love The Greatest Showman as well. It’s a close competition between Sweeny and it.

I’m getting confused between ‘sound track’, a collection of songs which all have lyrics (a mixture of know chart hits and specially written ones) and a films ‘score’ which is what John Williams and Danny Elfman are so good at orchestrating. Are we counting both here?

I would say both! There’s no right or wrong way to answer these. I did pick earth bending for the super power question lol!

A bender is from Avatar: the Last Airbender universe. Benders can usually bend one of the elements (water, earth, fire, and air) while the Avatar can bend all of the elements. 🙂

The Crow Soundtrack is full of 80’s/90’s darkwave, goth and rock. It’s such a mood!

Good choice. Some of my favorite movie soundtracks involve (in no particular order) Felicite, Ernest & Celestine, and The Tale of the Princess Kaguya.
