Day 22 – Favorite fandom quote?

I’ve been on a weight loss journey since 2017, (I even added a part two here if you’d like to read about my journey so far; look out for a part three soon.) and in November of 2018 I started going to my local gym. I used a free three day pass to see if I liked it and when I did, I signed up. I was immediately offered a free session with a trainer, and that’s when I met my trainer, Nan. Nan listened to my goals and helped me create a work out routine. She took me through a routine she created just for me and showed me all the machines around the gym that could aid me in my goals.

I really enjoyed my free session with her so when Nan offered me 3 more sessions for $99, I snatched it up. Three sessions later, I was ready to become Nan’s client. I did the math and knew my health was important and worth the extra cost on a certified trainer like Nan who had the power to motivate me, keep me accountable, and teach me how to work out safely and with purpose. And the rest is history… Kind of.

Nan and I are still hard at work today. I finally gave up the scale when I started weight lifting with her. It was really hard to see my weight go up when I was working so hard. My trainer noticed how upset I was getting and offered some advice: put the scale away for now. I went home after our session and put the dreaded scale in our linen closet where I couldn’t see it or be tempted to use it.

I started focusing on my nutrition and how much weight I was lifting to measure my progress. I started taking more progress pictures and Nan still takes my body measurements for me. I felt strong. I felt healthy. And yet… I still worried about the number on the scale. Nan knew how hard putting the scale away was for me. During our work outs, she started giving me encouraging nicknames to help push me. The one that stuck was Marvel Meggy, Marvel meaning the Captain Marvel. Talk about an ego boost for this geeky girl!

I absolutely loved Captain Marvel the movie and being given her name as a nickname during weight lifting sessions brought me new motivation. It wasn’t long after that that Hollywood and Wine posted her artwork. I quickly downloaded it and made it my phone background as a reminder to myself that no matter what the scale says, I am strong and will continue to kick ass no matter what!

  1. Congrats on all your progress! I think a lot of people underestimate the amount of time, effort, and dedication it takes to eat properly and exercise regularly. I hope you keep hitting those new personal bests! 🙂

  2. Well done on your personal achievements!

My quote of choice would be “Friendship is Magic” it may be more a subtitle than an actual quote but it’s paraphrased often enough. In the opening title Twilight Sparkle sings “I used to wonder how friendship could be until you shared it’s magic with me. ‘

A very simple one that did however reflect my journey into coming out of my geek closet (and some other ones as well) . Nearly all my rp characters (even my star wars sith) use it as their catchphrase and even in daily life I use it to encourage people to open their heart and minds. People underestimate the power of friendship.

Being sickly I noticed how friendship can make me feel well enough to have a day of fun. Without my friends I even think I would have succumbed to this as they really gave me strength… and I mean that in the near magical sense of the word.. like goku’s spirit bomb levels of.. amazing. How the Ponies have defeated evils due to sheer friendship , I have defeated my demons in a similar way.I’ve seen friends conquer their fear to be with me as well so it’s truly something I believe. Friendship truly is magic!

So yeah.. not the most mature quote but an important one for sure!
