A new blog award has appeared! I feel incredibly lucky that Michelle of A Geek Girl’s Guide nominated me for her award: the Achievement Unlocked Award. Her kind words warmed my heart so I am so excited to take part in this award that she has so carefully crafted for our blogging niche.
If you haven’t seen Michelle around before, she is not only writes amazing blog posts like this article on games that help you destress, but she also runs an amazing Facebook group called Geek Blogs Unite. Michelle is a super talented blogger and has many ongoing blog series but First Look is probably my favorite! You can check out those right here.
The Achievement Unlocked Award is for anyone who would fit into geeky blogging that goes above and beyond in our niche. Whether you are all about video games, DIY across all fandoms, sharing your cosplay journey, or anywhere in between, it all fits and is worth celebrating. — Michelle @ A Geek Girl’s Guide
The Rules:
The rules are simple: if you are nominated, you’ll answer the five below standard questions for every award and the five custom questions by the nominator. You’ll then change their custom five to five of your own questions and nominate other bloggers you think deserve this award. Make sure to thank whoever nominated you and include the award description as well!
Questions:
Why did you start your blog? A Geeky Gal came from humble beginnings as an online diary on Blogger (whose name I have forgotten). I found that writing about games really made me happy and so I decided to rebrand… and A Geeky Gal was born on WordPress.
What are your favorite topics to write about? Definitely anime and video games! I do enjoy these awards and the odd tag though, because it’s a vacation from the normal content you might see here on the blog. One of my longest posts was about my wedding, and I have to say, it was really enjoyable to write.
What have you learned since you started your blog? Networking is the best thing you can do for your blog and yourself. I’ve learned to make friends in the blogging and writing community, and it has opened doors and empowered me to even start my own YouTube channel. Blogging doesn’t have to be a solitary activity.
What do you love about being a geeky blog? I love that I can be myself without judgement. There’s so many other geeky blogs that love the same thing I do! And we can openly chat about it, write posts about it, even film videos about it. There’s bound to be at least one other person on the planet who sees an anime or video game the way I do.
Where would you like to see your blog go in the future? I hope to still be writing on this blog in the future. I don’t plan to give it up any time soon. I do hope that there’s continued growth, for myself and my audience. I just surpassed 500 followers and am well on the way to passing 600 as I type this. It’s an amazing feeling. I hope it continues.
If you could be a part of one of your favorite fictional worlds, what world would it be? I immediately want to say Harry Potter, but if I had a longer think on it, it’d be Avatar: The Last Airbender. Hands down one of the most intriguing worlds I’ve ever been obsessed with. I hope I’d get to be a bender!
If you could interview any fictional character, who would it be? As strange as it sounds, Spyro. Can you imagine having the weight of your world on shoulders so many times? He’s not the first main character to have this problem, and he won’t be the last, but I’d really love to hear more stories from him.
What fictional character do you think would make a good geeky blogger? Luna Lovegood of Harry Potter would be an amazing geeky blogger. She is cool, fun, and weird which perfectly describes most of the geeky bloggers I know.
What other hobbies do you have besides blogging? I enjoy D&D, cosplaying, and video games. I also make YouTube videos! I really enjoy having creative outlets as a way to escape from every day life.
What is your favorite geeky thing as of right now? I’m seriously enjoying The Orville right now on Hulu. It’s such a good show. I really think other Star Trek fans would enjoy it as well.

I totally understand, Misa. I have a friend who switch their subscriptions around every few months so they can catch up on their shows. Might be something you can look into. 🙂

I can’t wait to see your answers, Lynn! When I first started, I always felt like blogging was a solitary thing for me, but working with Normal Happenings since the beginning as well as joining the FB groups I’m apart of has really opened my eyes to how much better blogging is with others!

Thanks for the nom 🙂 I’m looking forward to answering those lovely meaty questions!
And I second the point about connecting with other bloggers. I too have always thought of writing as a solitary thing, but now I get the best of both worlds – writing on my own in a nice calm space, then interacting with people afterwards.
