Sunshine Blogger Award (+ tags)

I’m no stranger to the Sunshine Blogger award, and it warms my heart every time I get a nomination! It’s been awhile since I’ve received one of these awards, so this one really means a lot! Our writing community here on WordPress is so supportive and spreads love where ever they go. Special thank you to Neko Jonez for the award nomination.

If you don’t know Neko Jonez (and you should!), he’s a phenomenal writer and has many posts that will make any gamer think twice about a subject like his post on Difficulty in Gaming. He also does reviews and first impressions which are great if you’re looking for your next game! Thanks again for the nomination Neko Jonez! On to the questions…

Questions:

Do you think that nowadays there are too many reboots and sequels to old games instead of new IP’s? Honestly, no. I am still wishing for a few reboots myself like Haunting Ground, Clock Tower 3, Rule of Rose, etc. I would buy them as is if they were ported over to the PS4. For real. So many games fell through the cracks that I either didn’t get to finish or really want to revisit.

Can the big studio’s like Nintendo, EA, Ubisoft… make indie games? Hmm… I’m not sure how to answer this one. To go with the definition of what an indie game is, it’s usually a game that doesn’t have the financial support of a publisher. I mean these big studios could publish them. I know sometimes they have smaller teams that work on indie games that they do in fact publish.

If one of the games you played in the past gets a HD remake, do you get excited? Would you play the remake? Yes and yes! Spyro is the best example of this. I was so excited to play Reignited, and it brought back so many good memories.

What do you do during a grinding session? Do you do something else while grinding for resources or characters or do you focus on the game? If I’m grinding, you can bet I have a blanket, a snack, and YouTube pulled up! If it’s a multiplayer game, I chat with friends to make the time go by faster. I find it hard to just game while grinding so multi-tasking is my go-to activity.

How do you take notes for your articles? Do you write them down on a piece of paper while playing the game? Do you record your gameplay and write down time stamps? It depends. If it’s for a game review, I usually revisit the game then immediately write up a draft. Over the week I’ll make tons of edits and add content until I’m happy with the overall post. If I have an idea for a post that’s not a review, I usually make a note, then add to a draft until I’m ready to finalize it.

What are your least favorite sections in gaming? Un-skippable cut-scenes, having to beat a boss over and over again, annoying sidekicks that die constantly, and babysitting other characters.

What is something unique/fun/interesting about your hometown and/or community? My husband and I are in a house currently that is nestled in the middle of four neighbors’ yards! we have a little driveway between the houses and most delivery drivers miss it. We also live super close to a community park where we like to take Padme for walk and battle at Pokemon gyms.

What’s your advice to new bloggers or even, experienced bloggers looking for advice? Join blogging communities! They are all over Facebook and Twitter. I have made new friends and gotten so much advice this way!

Can you answer this question with a wrong answer? One thing that works for one blogger may not work for another. I say it’s okay to try all kinds of thing until you find what works for you so I wouldn’t say there’s a wrong answer.

Do you sometimes look back at your old(er) articles and think, if I write another article about that today, it would be totally different? Yes! I really want to revisit some of those articles with the sate of mind that I have today. So much has changed; I have changed! I might attempt to revisit a few of my older articles just because of this question.

My Questions:

  • What song do you think makes people remember you?
  • What character would you choose to be your best friend?
  • What book do you need to read/game you need to play/show you need to watch?

  • If someone wanted to understand you, what should they read, watch, and play?

  1. Thanks for the nomination. I’ve done this award before, so I’ll answer your questions here:

What song do you think makes people remember you?
I don’t think I have one. I remember I had to pick out a song that represented me one time and I chose “You Belong with Me” by Taylor Swift, not for its romantic connotations but because it’s about pointing out you don’t stand out in comparison to others…that’s the way I perceived myself then and in a sense, I still see myself that way now.

What character would you choose to be your best friend?
Is it possible to have a husbando be a best friend? If so, the designated answer is En Yufuin (Binan Koukou Chikyuu Boueibu LOVE!). If not…recently I’ve been thinking Subaru Mikazuki (My Roommate is a Cat) is extremely relatable but someone who I wouldn’t want to be, so that’s probably my answer there.

What book do you need to read/game you need to play/show you need to watch?
I’m guessing this is referring to my plan to watch list, which is 300 or so entries long right now and growing, or my currently watching list, which I keep to 12. Currently outside seasonal anime, my main focus is Hozuki no Reitetsu (Hozuki’s Coolheadedness) season 2, which was put on Crunchyroll (presumably by HiDive) in the past few months.

Outside of that, I started reading the novel Crazy Rich Asians. I picked up from the library and for some reason, when my family see me reading it they ask me about it more than they’ve ever done for other books…that’s what happens when Hollywood starts acknowledging Asians exist without whitewashing, I guess.

Have you smashed any personal goals recently?
I finally obtained the legal ability to drive last month. Money is needed for each attempt, so people try to get it over with the first time and normally succeed. However, it took me 3 attempts and after the 2nd one, just thinking about the test was enough to make me have an emotional breakdown…that’s why it’s more significant than just the obvious benefits.

If someone wanted to understand you, what should they read, watch, and play?
Read manga, watch anime and play phone gacha games…I’m kidding to some degree, but those are my obsessions right now. Besides, I couldn’t boil it down to one thing each if I had to pinpoint a specific thing within each of those groups (even gacha games, which I’ve only played Love Heaven, Bungou Stray Dogs: Tales of the Lost, the Boueibu game and Merc Storia from).

List your favorite fandoms and one character from each that you identify with.
I’ve been with the Boueibu (Binan Koukou Chikyuu Boueibu LOVE!) fandom basically since its inception, so…En. I’m probably going to go back to Bungou Stray Dogs with the 3rd season being back soon and having been with them for a while (from before the anime), so…Chuuya (who’s my favourite, because he’s a tsundere smol hat rack). Those are my biggest fandoms right now, anyway.

What are three things that you are enjoying right now?
Still watching seasonal anime from winter 2019, so I’ll list off My Roommate is a Cat, Mob Psycho 100 II and Morose Mononokean Tsuzuki.

What is your favorite YouTube channel?
I don’t really watch YouTube channels for specific people – I listen to podcasts and videos if they involve bloggers I know, but that’s about it. However, the one I know the most, through other people talking about their videos around me, is NigaHiga so that’s probably enough of an answer.

List three of your favorite songs right now.
I heard of “Crab Rave” (by Noisestorm) and “Plastic Love” (by Mariya Takeuchi) through memes and have had them on repeat a bunch lately. I didn’t even know they were memes when I was first introduced to them, but knowing they are memes – as classified by Know Your Meme – just enhances my love for them.

Otherwise, I’ll say “Starflight” by R3HAB and Skytech. I claim not to be the type to not “live for the drop” like other fans of EDM – I favour the beat and rhythm over the drop – but I think songs like this one and “In My Mind” by Ivan Gough, Feenixpawl and Georgi Kay (another favourite of mine from when I listened to top 40 charts more) kind of prove me wrong.

What are some ways you practice self care that others might consider different or weird?
I’ve been told to practise “mindfulness” – that is, staying still and paying attention to your surroundings for up to 20 minutes in order to destress – and people probably think it’s weird (they think I’m asleep, because I close my eyes to concentrate), but for the times when I was doing it regularly it was pretty effective.

What is the hardest part about blogging?
Writer’s block, probably. Not having anything to write about stops you from blogging, full stop.
