If you’re participating in The Nerdy Girlie’s 5 Fandom Friday, you may have noticed a few of us have made some DLC’s (downloadable content) to complement the already lengthy blog prompt list courtesy of The Nerdy Girlie and Super Space Chick. You can check out my first DLC for 5 Fandom Friday at the GG Pack (the Geeky Gal Pack) and my second DLC here at GG2 Pack!
With 2019 upon us, I noticed a lot of people want to learn a new skill or take up a new hobby as one of their resolutions. The Nerdy Girlie had a similar prompt so I thought I’d put the tiniest spin on it! I wanted to share 5 hobbies that I and my fellow geeky friends enjoy. These would be perfect hobbies to try out or even some cool skills you can learn for 2019.
I had tried cross stitching in the past, and I loved it! Unfortunately, it’s been years since I picked it back up, but after following technicolournurd on instagram for weight loss inspiration, I found myself falling in love with her cross stitch pieces! I hope to start back cross stitch myself this year so I’ve been looking over Etsy for some geeky cross stitch patterns. Cross stitchers: where do you find geeky patterns for newbies?

I personally haven’t tried building models by hand, but as a 3D modeler, it does seem like this would be an amazing hobby. A good friend of mine nismoscats builds models in his down time from kits. His latest model is from Japan! You can find kits everywhere so pick one you like, and give it a shot.
I first found out about the art of miniatures when I started playing D&D with some friends. I had no idea that people would create their own characters, make them into models, have them 3D printed, then paint them! It sounds like such a cool idea. If you don’t have the skill to 3D model your character, you can buy bases that just need to be painted.
Trading Card Games
From Yu-Gi-Oh! to Pokemon to Magic the Gathering, there’s no shortage of card games that can be played in your group of geeky friends. I was never into trading card games myself until a few years ago when my husband got my brother and I into it. My brother had had some experience, but I was completely new to the whole thing. It was honestly a lot of fun and helped us all bond together. Not sure how to get started? Try some meet ups in your area or ask some of your friends if they’d like to give it a try.
What new geeky hobbies or skills are you planning on trying in 2019? Let me know in the comments!
