Anime Challenge Day 17: What is an anime you want to watch but haven’t yet?

One of my video game guilty pleasures is visual novels. I have yet to do any reviews of some of my favorite visual novels (I should really get on that…), but one of the most recommended visual novels that I have comes across is Steins;Gate. Y’all know how much I like to be in my feelings so Steins;Gate sounds perfect for me. What I recently found out is that it has an anime adaptation!

My Anime List is the first place I go to when I want to watch a new anime. Obviously, Steins;Gate is really popular and highly rated. I scanned a couple of reviews briefly to keep from getting any spoilers, but it sounds like an emotional sci-fi experience. As someone who enjoys a good cry and loves science fiction, it sounds like a winner.

I have one big reservation though. I really feel that I should play the visual novel before watching the anime. I’ve added it to my Steam wish list. After I get some other Saturday Suggestion posts out of the way, I’ll play it. Afterwards, I’ll revisit the idea of watching the anime. I’ll double check to see if this one is a good idea to stream.

The beauty of this visual novel is the multiple endings so I’m sure the anime will differ at least a little bit and give me a reason to check it out after completing the game. From glancing over the reviews, it looks to faithfully follow the visual novel but differs in some aspects which I think is fair. Just like with comic to TV adaptations, some things have to change!

I would love to hear from you guys in the comments. Have you seen Steins;Gate? Have you played the visual novel? How did you find the two? I’m extremely curious to hear from anyone that’s had a chance to play the visual novel and/or watch the anime.

  1. I love visual novels (as you probably already know) and Steins;Gate is also currently on my Steam wishlist. I have so many other ones I’ve already purchased and need to play first, but I definitely have my eye on this one. I also feel like I should play the games before watching their anime adaptations, it just seems to make more sense.

      1. I haven’t actually. I’ve played Doki Doki but I think I’ve bought all the others. I bookmarked the page for Katawa Shoujo (I assume when you first posted about it) but I’ve never got round to it. Hakuoki has taken up way too much of my time…

      2. I should try to find some more free visuals novels like KS and Doki Doki. It’s hard to find free visual novels with such amazing artwork and workmanship! I’d be interested to know your favorites. Do you have a round up post by chance?

      3. I don’t at the moment as I have so many in my backlog. Hakuoki has taken me over 100 hours already and I’m not even done yet. I hope to play more leading up to the end of the year and I think I’ll try and write a summary post then.

There’s a free one called “Cupid” on Steam that I’ve come across but I don’t know anything about it. I might try that out at some point.

  2. Ah I have so many. I just finished the Death Note manga so I definitely want to watch that. I have a bunch of animes that I’ve started, but never finished. I was in an anime club in college and we’d watch the first few episodes of things to see if they piqued peoples’ interest. So I’ve seen some Trigun, some Chobits, and some InuYasha, but not ALL of them. One of these days…
