5FF: Fandoms I’m Thankful For

If you’re participating in The Nerdy Girlie’s 5 Fandom Friday, you may have noticed a few of us have made some DLC’s to complement the already lengthy blog prompt list courtesy of The Nerdy Girlie and Super Space Chick. You can check out my first DLC for 5 Fandom Friday: the GG Pack (the Geeky Gal Pack)!

Thanksgiving is next week, and this prompt couldn’t be more relevant. Going back almost a year ago is one of my first 5FF posts: Fandoms That Made Me Who I Am. This post will hit on this a little bit, but much has changed in a year so get ready for some new fandoms I’m thankful for!

Harry Potter

The series is over and I’m still obsessed. Halloween? HP marathon. Christmas? HP marathon. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read the books anymore as I’m reading them again!

Doctor Who

I’m not totally caught up yet but I am so excited to see the new Doctor and all of her glory. The Doctor got me through a bad break up and became my favorite hero.

Stranger Things

The newest fandom to join my list but also a goodie. Anyone else fall hard for these characters and the 80’s aesthetic?

Disney

One of the things that brought my hubby and I together: the mouse. We are so excited to see Disney World on our honeymoon next year.

Star Wars

Star Wars was a late fandom favorite for me but for the past three birthdays of mine, I’ve made my way to the theater for Star Wars.

What fandoms are you thankful for?

  1. Love this! It’s weird and awesome to see that certain fandoms influence us so much! Mine is definitely Star Wars, Marvel, DC, Harry Potter, and OUAT. I love so many others, but those tend to be my top ones

      1. It’s all about hope and second chances. The characters are relatable, and we see how complex things are in real life versus fairy tales. I identify so much with Regina/Evil queen. Her circumstances made her evil, but she took control of her life and became good and overcame her past. Plus the writing to me in insane how they connected all the characters.

  2. For me, Star Wars is high on the list but is more the original movies and the books that came out in the 90s. I did enjoy the clone wars series, though all of the movies after Return of the Jedi (after release, not chronologically) apart from Rogue One have been major disappointments. Possibly the other 2 big ones for me are Marvel, and Transformers (but I mean cartoons of the 80s and the comics, not the Michael Bay Travesty) Great post

    1. I’ve become a bigger Star Wars fan as I’ve gotten older and I’m still pretty new to the Marvel Universe but I love it. Both fandoms have some heavy backstory which is why it’s taken me so long to really get into them. I see why fans can relate and look up to them so much.

      1. You have hit the nail on the head regarding marvel, comics and MCU. There is so much and if they arent carecul it becomes prohibitively complex to get new fans

  3. I’m with you for all of the fandoms (I love them all!), except for Doctor Who. I’ve never watched any of the seasons, and am a little intimidated by the fandom because I know I am so far behind! I’ve always been interested in watching it, but never knew what season or Doctor I should start with. Any advice for a first timer? 🙂

    1. Definitely start with the 2005 season with Christopher Eccleston (the ninth doctor). It’s one season and a bit cheesey but it’s the best one to start with. David Tennant is next and he will seal the deal for you. Just keep watching from the 2005 seasons. You can go back and watch classic Who after to just appreciate it. Bit definitely start with the ninth Doctor.
